Elizabeth Lenell Davies

Program Developer/Lead Architectural Educator
Imagining My Sustainable City

 

Elizabeth Lenell Davies graduated from the Masters Program in Architecture from the The Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) Los Angeles, California, in 1995. Pursuing an interest in Art and Architecture, Elizabeth Lenell took a position as architectural designer for ACE Gallery Los Angeles / New York City where she assisted the Director with design drawings and models for a new Contemporary Art Museum in Bangkok, Thailand. Relocating to New York City, she assumed the role of project designer for numerous design firms including Murphy Burnham Buttrick and Rogers Marvel Architects. Elizabeth Lenell married and relocated to Canada in 2002 to join Architects Alliance,  designers of the Terrence Donnelly CCBR building, the University of Toronto’s first ‘green’ laboratory building. Over three years, her responsibilities included project design work in collaboration with engineers and interior architects on the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences in Yorkville. In 2010, Elizabeth joined her husband, Andrew Davies, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the nonprofit arts organization No. 9 Contemporary Art & The Environment located in Toronto, Canada (2007/2008) and in collaboration with internationally-recognized Canadian artist IAIN BAXTER&, the IAIN BAXTER& ECOARTVAN Elizabeth visited 25 of the TDSBʼs Model Schools for Inner Cities and eight local libraries. Her role was to educate children on environmental issues through art making. Most recently, Elizabeth co-developed IMAGINING MY SUSTAINABLE CITY with Barbara Lilker with the interest of delivering an interdisciplinary learning project to forty four grade seven classes in Toronto, uniquely designed to incorporate grade seven curriculum with a focus on enhancing eco-literacy, through the ‘lens’ of Urban Design and Architecture. Elizabeth has taught Imagining My Sustainable City in Chicago through a partnership with The Chicago Architecture Foundation and No.9.

Barbara Lilker 

Program Developer/Lead Architectural Educator and
Project Manager Imagining My Sustainable City

 

Barbara graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Toronto in 1996. She is founding partner of the multidisciplinary design firm Lilker Hecht Design Studio, which concentrates on small-scale residential and commercial architecture. Since 2001 Barbara has developed and taught architecture programs to children of all ages as a faculty member of the Avenue Road Art School, an outreach instructor for Arts for Children and Youth and for various public and private schools in Toronto. Barbara’s focus has been to use architecture as a vehicle to integrate the arts, science and social studies objectives of the Ontario curriculum. Most recently Barbara co-developed and is an educator for No.9 Contemporary and the Environment’s program: Imagining My Sustainable City. This program, in partnership with the Toronto District School Board, teaches grade 7 and 8 students about sustainable urban design and architecture with a focus on enhancing eco-literacy. Barbara has taught Imagining My Sustainable City in Chicago through a partnership with The Chicago Architecture Foundation and No.9.

Emily Foster  

OCT. No.9 Education Coordinator

 

Emily Foster grew up in Bermuda before moving to Canada to attend Trinity College School in Port Hope, ON at age 14. Emily graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology in 2011, and from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) with a Bachelor of Education at the Junior/Intermediate level in 2014. She was a member of the Inner City Option cohort at OISE and gained valuable and insightful teaching and volunteer experience working with at-risk youth in Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods. Emily was introduced to teaching in the summer of 2009 at Windridge Tennis Camp (now Hosmer Point Summer Camp) in Craftsbury VT, working as a counsellor in 2009 and 2010, Head Counsellor in 2011 and Evening Activities and Sailing Director in 2012. In 2014 Emily was invited to become a member of the Hosmer Point Advisory Board. From 2011 to 2013, Emily worked as an Associate Faculty and Resident Assistant at Trinity College School, where she gained experience assisting in Grade 11 and 12 Politics, World Religions and World Issues classes. Additional responsibilities included coaching the Junior Improv Training Team, and acting as Assistant Coach on the tennis and swimming teams. After completing an internship in May 2014, Emily is now the Education Coordinator for No.9: Contemporary Art & the Environment, helping youth and families become environmentally aware and proactive though eco-art educational programming.
